Yes, you're right. That's what I'm starting to focus on. Last year I put all this pressure on myself that it made the writing seem more like a checklist item to cross off rather than a fun activity. Time for a different attitude in 2024. Sometimes I hit my goal for the day, some days I miss. Oh well - back at it again tomorrow!
Frank, those are great numbers. Those are the numbers that get things done. 500 to 1000 words a day with responsibilities is about all I average 👌 its easy to feel like it's not enough, but done consistently you'll have a steady churn of production. I've found thinking about the bigger goals is typically a mental trap frought with peril. The better goals are did you write every day, and write to the time limit you have and don't even pay attention to wordcounts until you go back a week later to track them.
That's good advice. I've adjusted my approach in the coming weeks and taken off the "win/lose" pressure off my back. Staying consistent is what I'm aiming for now. My mind is now free to just write something I want to read. Slow and steady process day by day. Thanks, brother.
Good job, Frank. Just think of all the practice you're getting Right Now for those coming years when other responsibilities will dwindle away.
