Frank, this was the motivation I needed to start digging into the collection of the best sci-fi/fantasy short stories of 2021 that's been sitting on my shelf for a bit
You've inspired me to dig into one author's work, then find the Ron Collins book you mentioned. I am also looking forward to your upcoming spooky October issue!
Love it so far! Fleming is a terrific storyteller. I've been a fan of the Bond films since my dad first introduced them to me many years ago. But I have more appreciation for literary Bond after diving into the first book. Thanks for commenting.
The reading out loud bit confuses me. When I am reading out loud, I'm too attentive to annunciation and cadence that I lose track of the meaning. I end up getting each sentence word for word, without knowing what happened.
Exceptions: if I'm in a loud environment, the reading aloud crowds out other noise and keeps my focus; if I haven't understood the passage after rereading several times, reading aloud jumpstarts my comprehension; for editing my own work; Finnegans Wake, which is incomprehensible until you hear it.
Understandable. I started with reading a chapter of the L. Frank Baum Oz books to my son, then poetry, now short fiction. I definitely stumbled over my words and everything sounded clunky haha. But it gets easier with practice, for me anyway.

Thanks for reading. I may pick up a copy of the 2021 collection myself.

Thanks Edward! Appreciate the comment.
I’m doing my part!
Many thanks, brother 🙏🏾
Great share, Frank. What do you think of Casino Royale?
