Let’s get right into it. Show and tell time!
Below is a new rejection slip.
Racking up rejections is the name of the game for any beginning writer. Thankfully, I’ve had four years of work experience in sales to build up enough thick skin. This is only the beginning, folks. Minutes after receiving the slip, I went to the next market on my list and submitted my story. I’ve made a list of over 20 other professional markets to submit to.
This best way to handle rejection is forward momentum. Keep f*king moving!
Find another paying magazine, submit your manuscript, and start your next story. As long as you continue to learn your craft and produce work consistently, then you can’t lose. This is the beginning of a long term game filled with ups and downs. When you are presented with setbacks, challenges, or “no” you have to keep moving forward or risk a slow death.
I have a vision of a life I want to live that is burning in my brain. Day after day I pour myself into the work like a mad man but I remind myself of why I do this. As Bill Watterson eloquently put it:
“To invent your own life's meaning is not easy, but it's still allowed, and I think you'll be happier for the trouble.”
That’s a short recap today. Now back to the writing.
Yesss Frank, this is such an amazing mindset. I love your optimism and determination, very inspiring! Keep it moving right on to the next submission, the perfect publisher will find you soon; we're rooting for ya!!!
Yup, keep on going!
